On the Move?

Going out west for a trail ride? Heading out east for a show? Be sure that you have your horse's original negative coggins test and if you are trailering to a different state, you will need a Health Certificate. Some states such as Montana and Illinois, just to name a couple, require a permit before you and your horse can enter. Be sure to call our office as soon as you know when you will be traveling. All the states vary in their requirements as to how recent the coggins test must be, and the dates on permits. Call us early to avoid any delays in getting the proper paper work ready.

Keep your horse comfortable and healthy. If you are planning a lengthy trip, consider having your horse tubed with mineral oil within 12-24 hours of loading him on to the trailer and possibly an immune stimulant to help him fight off anything that may be going around at the shows. Dust and particles from bedding and hay in the trailer are the largest contributors to "shipping fever." Try to use very little or no bedding, hay if fed while enroute should be dust free or if possible watered down. Be sure to stop often and offer water every couple of hours.
